In 2004 the Walter Lawrence Trophy celebrated its Platinum Year. A special ceremonial luncheon was held
in the Media Centre at Lord’s on September 24 to commemorate the 70th anniversary, and silver medallions
were presented to the previous winners of the Trophy in recognition of their achievement.
Richard Johnson, whose fastest first-class century was made off 63 balls for Somerset against Durham at
Riverside, August 16, 2004, also received a silver medallion when he was presented with the Walter
Lawrence Trophy by previous winner of the award, Tom Graveney, the current President of MCC.
